DescriptionThree aerial photographs of Rissington document extensive flood damage caused by Cyclone Gabrielle. Each image shows the road fork with the Soldier’s War Memorial, a carved redwood statue, standing at the centre. The Mangaone River runs through the landscape, with properties on both sides; several buried in deep silt, severely damaged, or destroyed. Heavy slips, widespread silt deposits, and debris line the riverbanks.
Visible buildings include the Omatua Riverside Lodge, 21 and 49 Soldier’s Settlement Road, and properties at 1834, 1887, and 1928 Puketitiri Road, among others. The photographs also show the temporary vehicle crossing under construction and the remains of the Rissington Bridge on the riverbank.
